The LPHU (now LUPD) issued a specialized publication on economic and social inclusion aimed at employers in particular and society in general, entitled “Diversity in the Workplace – A Guideline for Employing Persons with Disabilities”, under the slogan “Unity in Diversity”.
Based on the right of persons with disabilities to decent work, and in an effort to implement this right stipulated in Law 220/2000, especially the voluntary quota of 3% of jobs in the private sector, the LUPD worked to raise awareness through this publication, which was distributed with the Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar between 2005 and 2011, according to the agreement between the LUPD and the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, the martyr Gebran Tueni. The 12-page tabloid-sized guide contains documented information about the productive powers of people with disabilities, successful experiences in this context, guidelines on adapting jobs and equipping workplaces, in addition to removing employers’ concerns and stereotypes about the abilities of people with disabilities, providing facts and clarifying suspicions.
