Building on the steadfast commitment of the LUPD within the “Amali Haqqi” network, an advocacy campaign was implemented in 2022 focusing on the right to decent work for persons with disabilities in Lebanon, especially amid difficult economic conditions.
Key Milestones of the Campaign
In-Depth Study of the Reality
A large-scale study was conducted on the situation of persons with disabilities and employment in Lebanon, targeting 564 persons with disabilities from different governorates to diagnose current challenges.
Preparation of an Advocacy Paper
Based on the study’s findings, a detailed advocacy paper was prepared identifying challenges and recommending clear actions to integrate the rights of persons with disabilities into the Lebanese Labour Law.
Advocacy and Legislation
LUPD participated in a workshop titled “The Lebanese Labour Law: A Rights-Based and Social Approach” in collaboration with the Lebanese Observatory for Workers and Employees’ Rights. During the workshop, we provided a critical review of Law 220 and specific recommendations addressed to Parliament, the government, the private sector, and civil society organizations, aiming to formulate a labour law that takes into account the rights of all groups.
This campaign affirms the necessity of achieving justice and equality by ensuring decent and inclusive employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
