This vital project aims to provide protection and specialized support to girls and women with disabilities who are survivors of violence in the areas of Beirut and Mount Lebanon. The project is implemented in partnership with Kafa Association and with funding from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), from 2022 to 2023.
Key Interventions and Outcomes
The project focused on building team capacities and providing an integrated package of specialized services:
Awareness and Empowerment
- Approximately 10 awareness sessions were implemented, targeting 100 participants (women and girls with disabilities, and mothers of girls with disabilities).
- These sessions focused on the intersection between disability and violence, the challenges faced by women with disabilities in accessing protection services, and how to benefit from the project’s services.
Psychosocial Support
- Focused psychosocial intervention was provided through 4 support groups involving 30 participants, including women and girls with disabilities.
Case Management Service
- Specialized case management services were provided to 60 women and girls with disabilities who are survivors of violence, ensuring access to protection and referral to essential services.
Financial Assistance
- Emergency financial assistance was provided to 30 women to support their resilience and independence after experiencing violence.
Coordination and Partnership
- The team regularly participates in the working group on gender-based violence issues in Beirut and Mount Lebanon to ensure coordination of efforts and comprehensiveness of the response.
This project serves as a model of specialized work that ensures that women and girls with disabilities receive adequate protection and services that take into account their specific needs.
