The media unit at the LUPD issued a report on “Reconstruction and an Inclusive Environment.” It is the result of a field survey on how engineering standards and specifications for people with disabilities are being applied in the reconstruction process in southern Lebanon.
The report is seen as a step forward for Lebanese civil society’s right to monitor and hold accountable those in charge of reconstruction in Lebanon, especially as reconstruction is nearing completion.
The report is the first of several follow-up reports within the “Build for Everyone” campaign, which is a national campaign for an inclusive environment that the LUPD launched in April 2007.
The report includes an introduction about the campaign and the extent of damage to infrastructure and public facilities from the July 2006 war. It then explains the work methodology, sources, sorting of information, analysis, and results, which showed through numbers and photos that those in charge of reconstruction are not respecting inclusive engineering standards.
The report was put together by engineer Ahmad Izzedine, with a field team of Samia Bou Hassan, Amal Hamdan, Mohammad Khaled, Mohammad Faqih, Jana Darwish, Hani Assaf, and Safaa Bayoumi. It was edited by Imadeddine Raef, and supervised by Sylvana Lakkis.
The report is currently only available in Arabic.
