Protecting and Assisting of the Most Vulnerable Women and Girls with Disabilities in the Context of the Multi-Sectoral Crisis – Lebanese and Non-Lebanese

This project aims to mitigate the impact of the multi-faceted crisis on the health, hygiene, and protection of girls and women with disabilities, Lebanese and non-Lebanese alike, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and protection services.

The project is implemented across two tracks: in Baalbek-Hermel (in partnership with MPDL / JCCM, from 4/2023 – 2/2024), and in the Bekaa (in partnership with MPDL / Gob Cantabria, from 11/2023 – 7/2024).

Key Achievements

Needs Assessment and Awareness on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

  • In-depth Studies: Comprehensive needs assessments were conducted, including digital questionnaires targeting a total of 369 women and girls (171 in Baalbek-Hermel and 198 in the Bekaa in 2024), in addition to focus group discussions and home visits to study cases in order to gain a qualitative understanding of their situation regarding sexual and reproductive health.
  • Awareness Sessions: Specialized training materials were developed and adapted according to types of disabilities. Awareness sessions were implemented on topics such as puberty, menstruation, early marriage, sexually transmitted diseases, and others, targeting a total of 140 women and girls in 2024. These materials were linked to disability.
  • Distribution of Hygiene Kits: A total of 240 personal hygiene kits (100 kits in Baalbek and 140 kits in the Bekaa) were distributed to participants at the end of the awareness sessions to support personal hygiene.

Strengthening Protection and Case Management

  • Beneficiaries were referred to case management services in cases of gender-based violence, and information sessions were provided about this service.
  • A team was prepared and trained to facilitate awareness sessions and provide case management services to survivors.

Building the Capacities of Reproductive Health Service Providers

  • To ensure accessibility of services, focused meetings were held with representatives of 7 organizations working in the field of sexual and reproductive health to assess their level of knowledge regarding the needs of women and girls with disabilities.
  • A specialized 6-day training was prepared and implemented in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), with the participation of 11 representatives from 6 organizations to enhance their knowledge and practices so that reproductive health services become inclusive.
