My Right to Vote: Towards Inclusive Municipal Elections in Lebanon

Funded by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
Within the “Haqqi” (My Right) Campaign
Duration: 2023–2024

The project aims to establish the right of persons with disabilities to full and effective political participation, ensuring an independent, dignified, and accessible electoral process for all.

Key Focus Areas

The project focused on three main components:

  • Advocacy and Media: Launch of the national awareness campaign “My Right – My Voice Comes from the Ground Floor” using educational videos, visual messages, and TV ads to demand that polling centers be located on ground floors to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities.
  • Awareness and Training: Organization of intensive training and awareness sessions for 203 participants (58% persons with disabilities) across different governorates, empowering them to advocate for their political rights and participate actively in advocacy activities.
  • Dialogue and Coordination: Constructive dialogues with five major municipalities (Beirut, Sidon, Baalbek, Qabb Elias, Taanayel), and ongoing meetings with ministries (e.g., Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education) and electoral working groups to ensure inclusion standards are integrated into electoral process plans.

Project Impact

Through these efforts, and under the My Right campaign, the project seeks to raise public awareness and build bridges of trust between municipalities and persons with disabilities, creating a conducive environment that guarantees their political rights and achieves a more inclusive and equal society.
