A Protest to Address the Ongoing Marginalization of Displaced People with Disabilities

The Alliance of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities in Lebanon held an advocacy protest on Monday, May 11, 2026, in front of the new vegetable market building in Tariq El Jdideh, Beirut. The protest aimed to address the ongoing marginalization of displaced persons with disabilities and their exclusion from emergency response priorities. The coalition reiterated its demand for the establishment of at least one inclusive displacement center in every district.

During the protest, the coalition urged that the abandoned vegetable and fruit market building in Ard Jalloul be designated as a model center for hosting displaced persons with disabilities, the elderly, and their families. They also called for the establishment of inclusive shelters in every district that meet diverse needs and ensure protection and dignity for all.

Participants emphasized that inclusive displacement is not a privilege or an option; it is an urgent condition that represents a fundamental right and must be included in all response and shelter plans.
