The Lebanese Standards Institution (LIBNOR) and the LUPD have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote inclusivity within Lebanon’s environment. This MoU is the result of a long-standing collaboration between the two organizations, which have worked together for decades to develop national standards and specifications that ensure the respectful inclusion of people with disabilities in national programs and projects.
The MoU was signed by Engineer Lana Dergham, Director General of LIBNOR, and Sylvana Lakkis, President of the Union. It marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between the two entities.
Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate on organizing workshops, training sessions, and awareness programs focused on national and international standards for inclusive environments. The Union will contribute to the activities of the technical committees established by LIBNOR and utilize its specialized human resources to draft specifications related to inclusive environments. These specifications will be submitted to LIBNOR for technical review and potential adoption as national standards.
Key focus areas include the design of inclusive external environments and improving accessibility, usability, and mobility for individuals with physical disabilities. The MoU is effective immediately and will remain in force for one year, with an option for renewal.
