Hoteliers and “Tourism for All”

On June 29, 2017, the team of the “Tourism for All in Lebanon” project held a working meeting with the Syndicate of Hotel Owners in Lebanon, headed by Captain Pierre Ashkar, to coordinate and cooperate to develop an action agenda that affects hotels, and to inform the Syndicate of the preparations and the project’s path in the regions and consult it on the Beirut Declaration.

In the meeting, which was attended by colleagues Silvana Al-Laqis, Rona Debissi, and Nada Al-Azir, Captain Ashkar presented the reality of hotels in Lebanon and Gulf and European tourism, while colleague Al-Laqis presented the work of the project and the motivational activities that are carried out in the regions, and touched on the types of training that must be implemented to facilitate the work of people with disabilities in the tourism sector. The captain then detailed the types of specialties required, and pointed out the need to target the education sector to change cultures and prejudices. Al-Laqis presented the types of services provided by the project, including planning, technical support, and supervision of implementation.

The two parties also agreed to communicate with the hotels at a later date and coordinate to send a representative of the syndicate to participate in the project’s activities, in addition to preparing to implement a media campaign and target the education sector to change the reality and the existing culture.
