Annual Union Meeting with the General Assembly in Baalbek

On Sunday, September 6, 2026, the LUPD administration held its annual meeting with General Assembly members in the Baalbek region at the union’s center in the city. Over twenty members attended, along with Secretary Jihad Ismail, Vice President Hussein Jaber, Administrative Board member Zeinab Wahoud, and a number of friends and supporters. This gathering is part of a series of annual organizational meetings between central administration and regional assemblies.

After the national anthem, colleague Jaber started the session, welcoming everyone and underlining the importance of meeting in Baalbek, a key region that needs active follow-up on disability issues.

There were two segments on the agenda. First, an organizational segment where colleague Ismail gave a summary of the union’s history, its work in the physical disability field, and its health, professional, social, and educational goals. He also covered funding sources, the union’s structure, and membership criteria. During this segment, 22 membership cards were distributed, 7 of them new. The Secretary also reviewed members’ rights and duties, reaffirming the union’s non-political, non-sectarian character.

The second segment was an open discussion with members on key service and rights issues affecting people with disabilities in the region, especially health insurance, livelihoods, and the role of official institutions. Participants raised concerns about services from the Ministries of Social Affairs and Health, including the “Aman” card and support programs for youth and the elderly, along with health-related challenges. They agreed on the need to push relevant authorities to secure these rights.

The meeting closed with a message emphasizing collective awareness, self-reliance, and staying connected in the pursuit of full rights.
