Monitor Yearly Report 2017

The Monitor for the Rights of the Disabled continues to receive complaints about violations of these rights, and thus works to resolve some of the difficulties faced by people with disabilities through its intervention mechanisms. However, addressing some parts of the issue, even if it lifts the grievances of some people, is not a positive indicator in the absence of the state’s role as a sponsor. After trying to reach a specific number of disabled people in their places of residence or work last year, with the aim of showing a qualitative report on their situation on the one hand, and comparing it with previous years, and avoiding the difficulties that the monitoring teams encountered in previous years, on the other hand, the Monitor went in 2017 to intervene with those concerned under different titles, but it did not stop receiving complaints, most of which came in the form of phone calls. Perhaps this year’s report puts the finger on the wound regarding the most important issues that concern people with disabilities and prevent them from integrating into society, as the complaints were issued by them and on their own initiative, they contacted the Monitor to find a solution. At the same time, the Monitor did not ignore the complaints that flowed through social media, and the Monitor delivered the reports to the concerned parties, or to the intervention units of the Lebanese Wheelchair Union, and followed up on the complaints received.
