Supporting the Economic Integration of Persons with Disabilities in Lebanon

In the midst of the severe humanitarian and economic crisis facing Lebanon, especially after the 2024 war, the LUPD, with funding from UNESCWA, implemented the project “Supporting the Economic Integration of Persons with Disabilities” to strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable groups in Beirut and Mount Lebanon. The project focused on addressing food insecurity and supporting the livelihoods of families of persons with disabilities.

Key Achievements

Economic Empowerment Through Training (Cash for Work – CfW)

  • 15 women with disabilities (11 Lebanese and 4 Syrians) were selected after a comprehensive assessment to participate in the training program.
  • The women took part in an intensive 10-day theoretical and practical training course in “Food Services,” enhancing their skills in meal preparation, food safety, and nutrition, which boosted their self-confidence and ability to integrate socially.
  • Each woman participated in 40 working days within the training program, leading to a significant improvement in their financial situation and stability, enabling them to contribute to their families’ budgets.

Addressing Food Insecurity

  • LUPD’s “Access Kitchen” worked diligently to produce and distribute 5,600 hot meals over 40 days.
  • 130 families comprising 280 individuals benefited from the hot meals, which were identified through a strong partnership with 11 local non-governmental organizations.

Provision of Medical Supplies

As part of coordination with the Emergency Task Force for Persons with Disabilities, a range of assistive devices and essential medical supplies were secured, purchased, and distributed to persons with disabilities in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, such as catheters, urine bags, and adult and child diapers, addressing an urgent healthcare need.
